Complete NAPLAN Reading and Numeracy Practice Plan
Preparing for NAPLAN is easier when students follow a structured study plan that balances reading and numeracy practice. Rather than focusing on one subject at a time, a combined approach strengthens literacy and mathematical skills while reducing the pressure of last-minute revision. A consistent routine also helps students build confidence and develop effective study habits.
Start the week with a reading comprehension session. Choose a variety of text types, including narratives, informative articles and persuasive texts. Practise identifying the main idea, making inferences and understanding vocabulary in context. Reviewing incorrect answers is just as important as completing new questions because it reinforces learning and improves comprehension.
On the following day, focus on numeracy by revising number and algebra concepts. Practise calculations involving fractions, decimals, percentages and problem-solving questions that require logical reasoning. Gradually increase the level of difficulty as confidence grows.
Midweek is an ideal time for mixed revision. Complete both reading and numeracy activities in one session to simulate the variety of skills required during NAPLAN. This approach helps students switch between subjects efficiently while maintaining concentration.
Towards the end of the week, complete a timed practice test covering both reading and numeracy. Working under realistic exam conditions improves time management, accuracy and familiarity with the assessment format. Afterwards, review every incorrect response and identify areas requiring additional revision.
Reserve the final study session for targeted improvement. Focus only on weaker topics identified throughout the week and reinforce them with extra practice questions. Short daily sessions of twenty to thirty minutes are usually more effective than long periods of study completed only occasionally.
Following a complete NAPLAN reading and numeracy practice plan helps students develop balanced academic skills while reducing exam anxiety. Consistent preparation builds confidence, improves performance and provides a strong foundation for success on assessment day.
